Meet Dr. Larry Deutsch

LarryDr. Larry Deutsch is excited to be running for City Council, and hopes to be a new, active voice on the Council.

Larry was born in Brooklyn and lived in New York City throughout highschool. He went to college at Antioch College in Ohio, and then went to graduate and medical school at the University of Wisconsin.

After medical school, Larry spent several years as highschool teacher in New York and Wisconsin. He was a member of the United Federation of Teachers.

He moved to Hartford in 1977 to begin his residency at the UConn medical center. His practice included work in Hartford public schools and community health centers.

After studying to earn a Masters in Public Health from Harvard University, he worked as the medical director for Community Health Network, which services the Medicaid population and community health centers.

Later, Larry worked for the Connecticut Department of Public Health as a consultant on computerized medical records. He was a member of SEIU 1199.

Larry has three children who have gone through the Hartford public schools and has been active in Parent Teacher Organizations. He served as co-president of the PTO at Bulkeley High School.

Today, Larry practices pediatric care and is heavily involved in medical and public health advocacy. He is a strong proponent of a major changes to our healthcare system.
