Urania Petit | Luis Cotto | Dr. Larry Deutsch |
Urania Petit is running for Hartford City Council, to bring a new, activist voice to the council.
She was born in St. Lucia, and came to the United States in 1989.
Her first job was at the Stop and Shop in West Hartford, where she learned the value of union who would fight for her rights on the job.
She received her B.A. in Political Science and Public Administration from Central Connecticut State University. She enrolled in the Masters program of the Uconn School of Social Work in 2004, after almost 6 years of working as an Office Manager at the Hartford Vet Center Department of Veterans Affairs. Prior to that Urania spent 8 years working in the health care field at Hartford Hospital.
Urania completed her first year field placement at the Connecticut Women's Education and Legal Fund (CWEALF) where she did advocacy and lobbying work to expand hate crime laws to include gender identity, and working with Democracy Works doing voter education and outreach in several communities.
During her second year field placement at the Nancy A. Humphreys Institute for Political Social Work, Urania was involved with several projects. She coordinated the Institute's voter registration activities, the Get out the Vote campaign, and the Institute's Annual Report. Urania also worked on the Institute's Electronic Newsletter.
As a secondary placement Urania worked for Ned Lamont's (D-CT) 2006 Senate campaign and volunteered for Chris Murphy's Congressional campaign.
Urania traveled to Armenia in March 2007 to study social work in the 2nd world with a focus on pregnant women and children.
Today, Urania lives in Asylum Hill, with her daughter Nia.
It all comes down to Election Day. And if we work hard, we can bring a new independant voice to the Council.
Working Families candidates are the only independent candidates endorsed by the Hartford Courant!
Ned Lamont has endorsed the Luis, Urania and Larry!
