Norwalk Elections
Highlights:
Norwalk elects five Councillors at-large and ten by district, two in each of the city's five districts.
Incumbent Democrat Matt Miklave, resprenting District A, was the only Democrat on the Commons Council to vote against the Norwalk Living Wage Ordinance. Needless to say, he didn't receive the Working Families endorsement.
The other Democrat running in District A, Steve Serasis, is a committe progressive, and received the Working Families ballot line. Because of the power of incumbency, Miklave received more Democratic Party votes than Serasis. But the extra votes Serasis got on the Working Families line on Row D pushed him ahead of Miklave.
Now District A is respresented by a dependable progressive who will support fair wages, responsible contracting, and affordable housing. Just goes to show -- opposing Working Families on our priority issues can be dangerous.
Working Families also provided the margin of victory for Mike Geake for an at-large seat on the Commons Council. Geake is a progressive fighter who was a founder member of the Fairfield County chapter of Democracy for America.
