Our Values: Changes Working Families Need

Affordable Healthcare

Affordable Healthcare Affordable Healthcare

Healthcare Reform: Something we could REALLY by thankful for.

We all have much to be thankful for this year. Let's take the opportunity to tell our elected leaders one more thing that we'd really be thankful for.

It isn't news that our healthcare system is broken. Costs are rising too fast, and too many people are left without coverage. But with our economy in recession, the need for healthcare reform has never been more urgent.

On Election Day we voted for change -- let's make sure the politicians know we're really serious about healthcare reform.

Healthcare Reform: Something we'd really be thankful for.
Every family in Connecticut deserves quality, affordable healthcare. Sign our Petition!

Everyone deserves quality medical care when they're sick -- and a family doctor to keep you healthy. We're supporting a new public healthcare plan to make sure everyone can get high quality and affordable healthcare.

Problem:

But rising costs have pushed quality healthcare out of reach for too many families. 48 million people in the US lack healthcare coverage, and 400,000 here in Connecticut .

Even for those of us who have healthcare coverage, costs are getting to be too much to bear, with the price of premiums outpacing inflation every year. And one unexpected serious medical problem can bankrupt any family all too easily.

The high cost of healthcare is draining small businesses too -- since small business don't have the bargaining power larger businesses do, high costs hit them the hardest, and keep them from providing healthcare.

This is an outrage, and we can do better.

Solution:

Everybody deserves access to affordable and high quality care, and that no insurance company claims adjuster should be making health decisions that should be between a family and the doctor.

Working Families is advocating a new public healthcare option to expand healthcare access and drive down costs.

People who are happy with their healthcare coverage could keep their existing plan -- but people without insurance or paying too much could buy into a new high-qualty low-cost public plan.

A new public healthcare option would drive down costs for all of us by forcing private insurance companies to compete.

Public healthcare plans have been proposed at the State and National level -- we're supporting both.

Comprehensive healthcare reform could save us all money, provide better health coverage and more preventive care to everyone, and stimulate our economy.
